The Nature Conservancy and similar organizations are there, doing the work we can't. They are conducting research, creating programs, writing legislation and working with local people and their governments in order to protect the rainforest. Because of these dedicated teams, we now have a much greater understanding of what rainforests (and their destruction) mean to the earth. Sadly, we also know that deforestation is occurring at the rate of about one football field per minute. But with funding and support, they can (and WILL) continue their struggle to preserve the rainforest, its inhabitants and resources.
